The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for daytime lane restrictions on north- and southbound Interstate 19 near Green Valley weekdays  from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.  beginning Wednesday, Sept. 3, through Friday, Sept.12, as work begins on the I-19 Canoa Ranch Rest Area sensor upgrade project.

Drivers should plan for delays, obey posted speed limits and traffic control devices and use caution while the following restrictions are in place: 

  • North- and southbound I-19 will be narrowed to one lane between Canoa Ranch Drive (kilometer 57) and Arivaca Road (kilometer 48).
  • Law enforcement officers will be on site to direct traffic through the project area.
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph.

Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation is scheduled to begin a project in the summer of 2025 on the north- and southbound Interstate 19 Canoa Ranch rest areas to install weigh-in-motion systems with tire pressure sensors to replace the existing system.

What to expect

  • Traffic control devices will guide motorists through the construction area. 
  • Construction work is tentatively scheduled  from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Expect temporary delays as traffic is redirected through a single travel lane. 
  • ADOT will provide advance notice of restrictions and closures to email subscribers. 

Schedule

Construction on this project is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2025 and is projected to be completed in winter 2025. Schedules are subject to change because of weather and other unforeseen circumstances.
