Overnight lane restrictions on Ellsworth Loop Road for ITS project Aug. 11-16

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for the following lane restrictions for fiber installation in Queen Creek, as part of an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) project.

Note: All lane restrictions will take place nightly between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

  • Aug. 11-13 (Monday and Tuesday nights): Northbound Ellsworth Loop Road will be narrowed to one lane in areas between Walnut and Germann roads.

  • Aug. 13-16 (Wednesday through Friday nights): Northbound Ellsworth Road will be reduced to one lane in areas between Empire Boulevard and Aldecoa Drive.

Drivers should use caution and be prepared to slow down and merge safely when approaching and traveling through any work zones.

Overview

The project will implement intelligent transportation system (ITS) infrastructure in several corridors in the town of Queen Creek. These improvements will provide additional technology to manage traffic to improve safety and efficiency. This project is a partnership between ADOT and the town of Queen Creek.

Project Elements

The work consists of installation of fiber optic cabling, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras, connecting fiber to existing traffic signals and other related work.

What to Expect

  • Construction began in July 2025 and is expected to take approximately seven months to complete.
  • Initial work will be done off the roadway, and drivers may see crews working in some locations on the sidewalks. Work requiring traffic control is expected to begin in late July or early August, when fiber optic installation begins.
  • Work will be phased in smaller sections of the corridors, requiring lane restrictions in those areas. A majority of the work will take place in the overnight hours, between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. 
  • Advance notice of restrictions and closures will be communicated through the project webpage and the town’s communication channels.
  • Access to businesses and residences will be maintained.
