UPDATED: I-17 cross street restrictions and ramp closures at Anthem Way, Daisy Mountain Drive and Pioneer Road scheduled Aug. 26-29

Ramp closure dates updated due to weather; no closures planned over Labor Day weekend

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for the following overnight closures and restrictions in north Phoenix as part of the Interstate 17 pavement project between State Route 74 and Anthem Way:

ANTHEM WAY

  • UPDATED: The southbound I-17 on-ramp at Anthem Way will be closed from 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, to 6 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27.
    • DETOUR: Drivers can use eastbound Anthem Way to southbound Gavilan Peak Parkway to westbound Daisy Mountain Drive to access I-17.

DAISY MOUNTAIN DRIVE

  • UPDATED: The southbound I-17 on- and off-ramps at Daisy Mountain Drive will be closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Wednesday, Aug. 27, and ending Friday morning, Aug. 29.
    • ON-RAMP DETOUR: Drivers can use eastbound Daisy Mountain Drive to southbound Gavilan Peak Parkway to westbound Pioneer Road to access I-17.
    • OFF-RAMP DETOUR: Drivers may consider using the southbound I-17 off-ramp at Anthem Way to southbound Gavilan Peak Parkway to westbound Pioneer Road to access Daisy Mountain Drive.
  • Daisy Mountain Drive at I-17 also will have nightly lane restrictions from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Sunday, Aug. 24, and ending Friday morning, Aug. 29.

PIONEER ROAD

  • The north- and southbound I-17 ramps at Pioneer Road will be alternately closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., beginning Sunday, Aug. 24, and ending Friday morning, Aug. 29.
    • NORTHBOUND I-17 ON-RAMP DETOUR: Drivers can use eastbound Pioneer Road to northbound North Valley Parkway/Gavilan Peak Parkway to westbound Daisy Mountain Drive to access I-17.
    • SOUTHBOUND I-17 ON-RAMP DETOUR: Drivers can use eastbound Pioneer Road to southbound North Valley Parkway/Gavilan Peak Parkway to westbound State Route 74/Carefree Highway to access I-17.
    • NORTHBOUND I-17 OFF-RAMP DETOUR: Drivers can use the northbound I-17 off-ramp at State Route 74 and travel east to northbound North Valley Parkway/Gavilan Peak Parkway to Pioneer Road.
    • SOUTHBOUND I-17 OFF-RAMP DETOUR: Drivers can use the southbound I-17 off-ramp at Daisy Mountain Drive and travel eastbound to Gavilan Peak Parkway and south to Pioneer Road.

NOTE: Consecutive southbound I-17 off-ramps will not be closed simultaneously.

Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation has started a project to improve the pavement on Interstate 17 from State Route 74/Carefree Highway to Anthem Way. The purpose of the project is to replace the pavement and to improve safety and the driving experience on the roadway.

Project Elements

  • Removing and replacing the existing asphalt pavement on I-17 and the interchange ramps between SR 74 and Anthem Way
  • Repairing and sealing bridge decks
  • Upgrading guardrails
  • Replacing pavement markings
  • Modifying existing sidewalk curb ramps and pedestrian push buttons, as needed, at the Daisy Mountain Drive and Anthem Way interchanges, to comply with federal Americans with Disability Act standards

What to Expect

Overnight weeknight/weekend lane restrictions and ramp closures will be required.

ADOT will provide information about restrictions and closures in advance so drivers can plan to use alternate routes and allow extra time.

Project Schedule

Construction began in June 2025 and will take approximately eight months to complete. 

Schedule subject to change based on weather or other unforeseen factors.
