State Route 24 Study

State Route 24 (previously known as SR 802) begins at Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) near the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport and extends to US 60 in Pinal County.

The SR 24 Pinal County study area includes and/or is near Mesa, Apache Junction, Queen Creek and unincorporated areas within Maricopa and Pinal Counties.

Geographic Locations:

Between Loop 202 and Ellsworth Road: This one-mile stretch between Loop 202 and Ellsworth Road is separated into two phases. T.  The ramps and ramp connections along this stretch of SR 24 have received funding through the Maricopa Association of Governments' (MAG) Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) approved by Maricopa County voters in 2004. The contract for construction is currently out to bid and construction of this initial phase of the project is anticipated to begin in Spring 2012. The Loop 202/State Route 24 system interchange and the portion of SR 24 roadway between Loop 202 and Ellsworth is unfunded. The MAG RTP indicates that final design and construction for this portion of SR 24 in Maricopa County is expected after the year 2015.

Between Ellsworth Road and Meridian Road: The next portion of SR 24 will stretch from Ellsworth Road to Meridian Road at the Maricopa/Pinal County Line. It is currently unfunded but the MAG RTP indicates that final design and construction for this segment of SR 24 in Maricopa County is expected after the year 2015.

Between Meridian Road and Ironwood Drive*: Funding for this segment, a shorter one-mile portion between Meridian Road and Ironwood Drive near Apache Junction in Pinal County, is currently not available.

Between Ironwood Drive and US 60*: The Pinal County study area begins at Ironwood Drive and continues eastward to connect with US 60 in the Florence Junction area.

*These segments are being considered simultaneously with the North-South Corridor Study since both potential routes may connect with each other in the future.
