State Route 189 Study: International Border to Grand Avenue

The Arizona Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration began working in early 2011 on an engineering and environmental study for SR 189 (Mariposa Road). The goal of the study is to develop a long-range plan for future improvements between the U.S.-Mexico border and Grand Avenue. The study is currently in the alternatives development phase.

Funding for this project beyond the initial scoping phase has not been identified. Once the alternatives have been identified and analyzed, this project will move into the Planning and Environmental Linkage (PEL) process. The PEL approach will assist ADOT in identifying environmental issues early in the transportation planning process with the information and analysis conducted used later to plan the National Environmental Policy Act process when funding has been identified.
