I-17 lane restrictions, ramp closures at Anthem Way, Daisy Mountain Drive and Pioneer Road scheduled Dec. 5-14

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for the following overnight closures and restrictions in north Phoenix as part of the Interstate 17 pavement project between State Route 74 and Anthem Way:

I-17

Northbound I-17 will continue to be narrowed to one lane in areas between SR 74/Carefree Highway and Anthem Way nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. ending Sunday morning, Dec. 14.
Southbound I-17 will continue to be narrowed to one lane in areas between Anthem Way and SR 74/Carefree Highway nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. ending Sunday morning, Dec. 14.

ANTHEM WAY

The northbound I-17 off-ramp at Anthem Way will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Sunday, Dec. 7, and ending Tuesday morning, Dec. 9.
- Detour: Drivers may consider using eastbound Daisy Mountain Drive to northbound Gavilan Peak Parkway/North Valley Parkway to access Anthem Way.
The southbound I-17 on-ramp at Anthem Way will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Monday, Dec. 8, and ending Wednesday morning, Dec. 10.
- Detour: Drivers may consider using southbound Gavilan Peak Parkway/North Valley Parkway to westbound Daisy Mountain Drive to access I-17.

DAISY MOUNTAIN DRIVE

The northbound I-17 off-ramp at Daisy Mountain Drive will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Friday, Dec. 5, and ending Monday morning, Dec. 8.
- Detour: Drivers may consider using the northbound I-17 off-ramp at Pioneer Road to northbound Gavilan Peak Parkway/North Valley Parkway to access Daisy Mountain Drive.

The northbound I-17 on-ramp at Daisy Mountain Drive will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Sunday, Dec. 7, and ending Tuesday morning, Dec. 9.
- Detour: Drivers may consider using northbound Gavilan Peak Parkway/North Valley Parkway to westbound Anthem Way to access I-17.
The southbound I-17 off-ramp at Daisy Mountain Drive will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Monday, Dec. 8, and ending Wednesday morning, Dec. 10.
- Detour: Drivers may consider using eastbound Anthem Way to southbound Gavilan Peak Parkway/North Valley Parkway to access Daisy Mountain Drive.
The southbound I-17 on-ramp at Daisy Mountain Drive will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Tuesday, Dec. 9, and ending Thursday morning, Dec. 11.
- Detour: Drivers may consider using eastbound Daisy Mountain Drive to southbound Gavilan Peak Parkway/North Valley Parkway to westbound Pioneer Road to access I-17.
The northbound I-17 off-ramp at Daisy Mountain Drive will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Wednesday, Dec. 10, and ending Sunday morning, Dec. 14.
- Detour: Drivers may consider using eastbound Pioneer Road to northbound Gavilan Peak Parkway/North Valley Parkway to access Daisy Mountain Drive.

PIONEER ROAD

Pioneer Road at I-17 will continue to be narrowed to one lane nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. ending Sunday morning, Dec. 14. NOTE: Flaggers will assist drivers through the work zone.
The northbound I-17 off-ramp at Pioneer Road will continue to be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. ending Saturday morning, Dec. 6.
- Detour: Drivers may consider using eastbound Carefree Highway/SR 74 to northbound Gavilan Peak Parkway/North Valley Parkway to access Pioneer Road.

The southbound I-17 off-ramp at Pioneer Road will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Tuesday, Dec. 9, and ending Thursday morning, Dec. 11.
- Detour: Drivers may consider using eastbound Daisy Mountain Drive to southbound Gavilan Peak Parkway/North Valley Parkway to access Pioneer Road.
The northbound I-17 on-ramp at Pioneer Road will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Wednesday, Dec. 10, and ending Sunday morning, Dec. 14.
- Detour: Drivers may consider using eastbound Pioneer Road to northbound Gavilan Peak Parkway/North Valley Parkway to westbound Daisy Mountain Drive to access I-17.

NOTE: Consecutive I-17 on- and off-ramps will not be closed simultaneously. Crews will be moving around the area each night based on progress.

Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation has started a project to improve the pavement on Interstate 17 from State Route 74/Carefree Highway to Anthem Way. The purpose of the project is to replace the pavement and to improve safety and the driving experience on the roadway.

Project Area

Project Elements

Removing and replacing the existing asphalt pavement on I-17 and the interchange ramps between SR 74 and Anthem Way
Repairing and sealing bridge decks
Upgrading guardrails
Replacing pavement markings
Modifying existing sidewalk curb ramps and pedestrian push buttons, as needed, at the Daisy Mountain Drive and Anthem Way interchanges, to comply with federal Americans with Disability Act standards

What to Expect

Overnight weeknight/weekend lane restrictions and ramp closures will be required.

ADOT will provide information about restrictions and closures in advance so drivers can plan to use alternate routes and allow extra time.

Project Schedule

Construction began in June 2025 and will take approximately eight months to complete.

Schedule subject to change based on weather or other unforeseen factors.
