National Household Travel Survey

For more information on the National Household Transportation Survey, visit the NHTS webpage at: www.NationalHouseholdTravelSurvey.com or call 1.855.350.NHTS (6487).

ADOT and the Federal Highway Administration have initiated a yearlong process of inviting up to 30,000 Arizona households, most of them in rural areas, to participate in the National Household Travel Survey (NHTS). The goal is getting 3,000 households to participate, and keeping awareness up as the invitations go out through the year.

NHTS survey process:
  1. Spend about 10 minutes filling out a brief survey that comes with the invitation to participate and return it in the prepaid return envelope provided.
  2. Use travel logs provided to participants to keep track of where they go on the assigned day and how they get there.
  3. Complete the survey online or by phone, a process that usually takes 20 to 25 minutes.
Why participate:

Your travel experiences are unique and important. Travel surveys help state, local and federal leaders decide how to invest limited transportation funding and improve roads, public transportation, sidewalks, bike paths and more. In a very real way, participation helps chart the future of our state’s and our nation’s transportation system.
