Arizona began a first of its kind service in November, 1997 allowing
citizens to use the Internet or telephone for vehicle registration renewals.
This alternative, called ServiceArizona, allows instant renewal and is available
seven days a week around the clock, except for limited early morning computer
down times. Users follow instructions on the screen or from interactive voice
prompts on the phone to renew, charging the fees to a major credit card. ServiceArizona
users also can order special license plates when they do a registration renewal on the Internet.
They can order a duplicate driver license or identification card on the Internet to replace one
that is lost or damaged, and change the address on their driver license record if they have
moved. Other online services will be added in the future.
