Apply for a Single Trip Registration, Motor Carrier, Use Fuel Permit Online NOW!
Purpose
Allows the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) to issue registration, motor carrier and use fuel single trip permits to nonresident owner/operator or driver for operations in or through Arizona for a specific trip.
Provisions
The following provisions apply to single trip
registration, motor carrier, and use fuel permits. The single trip
permit provides an opportunity for drivers of commercial motor
vehicles, laden or unladen, to purchase a registration for that
trip, rather than purchasing a 30, 60, 90-day permit or an annual
registration. The permit is valid for use for a period of ninety-six
(96) hours or upon exit of the state, whichever comes first, unless
an extension of time is required. Such an extension is authorized by
field officers when there is reason to believe that circumstances
beyond the control of the driver caused a delay of normal planned
travel. Such an extension must be granted in person and in writing.
No approvals will be done over the phone.
- Registration Provision -
Any commercial vehicle that has a gross weight of six thousand
pounds or more, and that is operated in more than one jurisdiction
is subject to permit fees in the state of Arizona if not currently
registered in Arizona, or has Arizona listed on their IRP
registration. The permit shall be used for the type of trip
specifically described by the driver at the time of purchase. This
includes the exact routing information.
- Motor Carrier Provision - The Motor Vehicle
Division shall require that a motor carrier tax be paid for all
vehicles that are subject to registration in Arizona and that have
a declared gross vehicle weight of 12,000 lbs or more as required
by Arizona Revised Statutes. The Motor Carrier trip permits are
not issued for a specific route. The vehicle must have a valid
registration permit in order to purchase Motor Carrier.
- Use Fuel Provision - A motor vehicle that uses use fuel on the highway in this state having a registered gross vehicle weight of more than twenty six thousand pounds, or having more than two axles must purchase Use Fuel. A vehicle or combination motor vehicle that exceeds 26,000 lbs gross vehicle weight must purchase Use Fuel. The Use Fuel trip permits are not issued for a specific route.
Fees
- Registration: based on axles and miles traveled in the state. $1.00 per axle on the ground, per 50 miles.
