Apache Junction Comprehensive Transportation Study

We need your Input:

In an effort to build a better, more sustainable community, ADOT and the City of Apache Junction is conducting a study to establish a 20-year vision to guide transportation decision-making and include recommendations for roads, transit, and multimodal (bicycle, pedestrian and equestrian) paths. We are seeking public input into this planning effort.

The Apache Junction Comprehensive Transportation Study is a joint effort by the City of Apache Junction and the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) to develop a long-range multimodal transportation plan to address the City's most critical current and future transportation needs. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is funding the study, through the ADOT Planning Assistance for Rural Areas program. The boundary of the study (shown in the map) is from McKellips Road on the north, Elliot Road on the south, Meridian Road on the west and approximately one-mile east of Mountain View Road.

The Apache Junction Comprehensive Transportation Study will be conducted according to a cooperative planning process involving stakeholders that include public agency staff, elected officials, and the public. Throughout the study, information will be presented to and solicited from stakeholders through individual interviews, focus group meetings, public meetings, and other means of communication.

In an effort to build a better, more sustainable community, the Study will establish a 20-year vision to guide transportation decision-making and include recommendations for roads, transit, and multimodal (bicycle, pedestrian and equestrian) paths.

The Study will not recommend exact roadway designs for proposed new roads, analyze environmental issues, or provide funding to implement the future recommendations. However, it will seek to preserve the existing transportation system and enhance safety, efficiency, mobility, accessibility, and reliability of travel by providing additional transportation, transit and multimodal choices.

In summary, the following are the proposed short, mid and long-term types of improvements for transportation, transit and multimodal paths, which would be implemented based on population and available funding. The City will manage this plan and prioritize future improvements based on available funding.

Short-Term = population reaches 60,000
Mid-Term = population reaches 75,000
Long-Term = population reaches 130,000
