San Carlos Apache Tribe Transit Study

Project Summary:

The San Carlos Apache Nation spans across Gila, Graham, and Pinal Counties in Southeastern Arizona.  The current Tribal enrolled resident population is estimated at 10,950.  Approximately, on-third of the population lives in or near the Tribal capital of San Carlos.  Peridot, Cutter, and Bylas are smaller population centers located along US Highway 70 and the Arizona Eastern Railway.  The study process consists of two separate phases:

  • Phase I:  Transit Study
  • Phase II:  Implementation Plan

The study will address the most critical current and future transit planning needs identified by the San Carlos Apache Tribe.  The goal of the Tribe is to enhance mobility for Tribal members and facilitate access to employment.

The San Carlos Apache Tribe Transit Study will be conducted according to a cooperative planning process involving stakeholders that include public agency staff, elected tribal officials, and the community members.  Throughout the study, information will be presented to and solicited from stakeholders through individual interviews, focus group meetings, public meetings, and other means of communication.
