ADOT engineers confirm no damage to 'Stack' following Thursday's fire

If you were anywhere near Phoenix’s downtown area yesterday afternoon, you probably know that a huge fire burned very near the I-17 ‘Stack’ interchange...

While the blaze did create some long delays for commuters (I-10 westbound was closed between SR 51 and 27th Avenue), it did not cause any heat or smoke damage to the freeway – a fact that was confirmed today by ADOT.

Early this morning, ADOT inspectors were able to get a close look at the steel-girder system supporting the ramp that connects westbound I-10 with northbound I-17. They determined that the fire did not affect the girders or concrete sections of the ramp – good news for drivers! The right lane of the ramp had been closed overnight as a precaution, but was reopened to traffic this morning.

Check out the video above for a look at the technology used by ADOT engineers.
