PHOENIX — A project to improve the Grand Avenue (US 60) intersection at Thunderbird and Thompson Ranch roads in El Mirage has been given an environmental green light from the Federal Highway Administration.
Work is scheduled to start by fall 2015 on the project that would shift the Thunderbird Road connection to Grand Avenue so that it directly aligns with Thompson Ranch Road, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
As part of the environmental assessment approval process, FHWA has issued a Finding of No Significant Impact. The federal agency determined the planned Grand Avenue intersection project would not create any significant environmental impacts.
The realignment of the Thunderbird connection to Grand Avenue is designed to enhance safety and improve traffic flow in the area. It will create an intersection allowing traffic to cross US 60 with a direct link between Thunderbird and Thompson Ranch roads. The project also will make adjustments to the Grand Avenue frontage road near Thunderbird Road.
The final Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact for the Grand Avenue intersection at Thunderbird and Thompson Ranch roads project are available online at azdot.gov/ThunderbirdTI. The documents also will be available for review until September 30, 2014 at the following locations:
