ADOT Achieves CMMI Level 3 Capabilities

The ADOT Information Technology Group (ITG) announced that in addition to successfully achieving a CMMI® (Capability Maturity Model Integration) Maturity for Software (CMMI-SW) Level 2 appraisal rating, it has also been certified in 11 out of the 21 key process areas needed to achieve Level 3.

Developed by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University, CMMI is an internationally recognized and acclaimed model that is used for assessing and improving software development and systems engineering capabilities. When properly applied, the model ensures that projects are accurately defined, managed, and implemented, thereby increasing the likelihood that requirements are met and goals achieved within established timelines and budgets.

The rating was achieved by ITG’s Information Delivery Solutions (IDS) group and the appraisal was carried out by Borland® consulting, an independent and authorized Software Engineering Institute Partner. With this achievement, IDS now joins a select group of software organizations worldwide who have been assessed at this level.

“This is one of the best organizations I’ve found in over 50 Level 2 appraisals in terms of having process weaknesses – none!”, said Bob Mahler, the SEI-Authorized SCAMPIsm Lead Appraiser.

Concurrent with the CMMI process, 9 ITG project managers have achieved the Project Management Institute (PMI®) - Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, 6 have received the State of Arizona Project Management Certification and 4 have achieved the PMI - Certified Associate Project Manager (CAPM) certification.

"Obtaining the CMMI Level 2 rating is a great achievement for our group. This rating, coupled with our commitment to the professional certification of ITG project managers, demonstrates our continuing dedication to providing high quality products and services to our customers through best practices and superior technical talent.

We are pleased to be part of a select group of high performing organizations. The CMMI Level 2 accreditation will bring real value to our customers.” said Joe Throckmorton, ADOT Chief Information Officer.
