Drivers passing through the Interstate 17/State Route 69 traffic interchange in Cordes Junction will be shifted onto detours on southbound I-17 and northbound and southbound SR 69 beginning Thursday night (December 29) (see attached map). The detours will provide a safe work zone for crews that are reconstructing the interchange. Work hours will be 7 p.m. Thursday (December 29) to 6 a.m. Friday (December 30).
The work on I-17 will require the closure of one northbound and one southbound lane through the work zone as crews complete the new detour crossover on southbound I-17. A minimum of one lane in each direction on I-17 and SR 69 will remain open. ADOT advises drivers to be aware of the 11 foot wide lanes at the crossovers along southbound I-17.
In addition to the work on I-17, crews will be working on northbound and southbound SR 69 overnight on Thursday (December 29) which will require a single lane closure. Flaggers will be present to allow crews to restripe the roadway and switch traffic onto the new detour routes.
ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit and be alert for construction equipment and personnel. The speed limit on I-17 will be 55 mph until the crossover is removed and the new bridge is completed over I-17. The speed limit on SR 69 is 45 mph through the construction zone.
