Overnight detour preparation work for Cordes Junction traffic interchange continues next week

Alternating lane closures expected on Interstate 17 and State Route 69 during work hours

November 28, 2011

The Arizona Department of Transportation will continue overnight work on the Cordes Junction traffic interchange at Interstate 17 and State Route 69 next week. Between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday (November 28) through Thursday (December 1), alternating lane closures will take place on northbound and southbound I-17 so crews can continue paving, striping and placement of concrete barrier along the project work area.

In addition to work on I-17, ADOT crews will also be working on northbound SR 69 which will require a single lane closure as crews perform work in the median. Work will take place between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday (November 28) through Thursday (December 1).

For the remainder of the year, motorists will be traveling on a single lane on southbound SR 69 approaching I-17 as crews continue work on the new detour system in the project area.

The nightly restrictions will provide a safe work zone for workers who are constructing the detour routes for the SR 69 and I-17 interchange.

As work continues to reconstruct the Cordes Junction traffic interchange, drivers will be required to follow new road alignments on SR 69 and I-17 in the project work area. ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit and be alert for construction equipment and personnel. The speed limit on I-17 and SR 69 during nighttime work hours has been reduced to 45 mph.

ADOT advises drivers to be aware of the 11 foot wide lanes at the crossovers along southbound I-17 that will be in place beginning the first week of December and be in place for several months
