The following restrictions will be in place on Interstate 17 and southbound State Route 69 at Cordes Junction the remainder of this week as crews install lighting and relocate the temporary concrete barrier along the highway, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation:
Wednesday, Dec. 26:
- Both directions of I-17 will be narrowed to one lane from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. to allow crews to remove and relocate temporary concrete barrier.
Thursday, Dec. 27:
- Northbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Drivers on southbound I-17 will be shifted through a detour over the Arcosanti bridge to the SR 69 on-ramp back onto southbound I-17 between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.
- Shoulder closure on SR 69 southbound ramp approaching I-17 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Friday, Dec. 28:
- Shoulder closure on SR 69 southbound ramp approaching I-17 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Drivers are encouraged to adjust their travel schedules in order to avoid the closures during these hours or allow extra time to reach their destinations.
The work is part of a $50 million project to reconstruct the I-17/SR 69 traffic interchange.
The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage. ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
