Eastbound Interstate 10 on-ramp at Sunland Gin Road south of Casa Grande to close next week

June 30, 2011

PINAL COUNTY — The eastbound Interstate 10 on-ramp at Sunland Gin Road (Exit 200) will be closed next week for paving as part of the project to widen I-10 between I-8 and State Route 87.

Crews will work around the clock from 7 p.m. Tuesday (July 5) to 7 a.m. Friday (July 8) to complete the work.

Signage will direct motorists wishing to access eastbound I-10 from Sunland Gin Road to a detour, where they will be directed west of Jimmie Kerr Boulevard (SR 84) and may enter eastbound I-10.

What to expect during the closure:

  • Motorists on eastbound I-10 may exit at Sunland Gin Road.
  • I-10 eastbound and westbound lanes will remain open during the ramp closure.
  • Detours may cause delays of up to 10 minutes.
  • Drivers should proceed through the detours with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
  • The construction project schedule is subject to change due to a variety of reasons, including weather, material availability and mechanical difficulties.

I-10 is being widened from two to three lanes in each direction between Picacho and Casa Grande to reduce traffic congestion and improve safety along this heavily-traveled corridor. The $31.3 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act project is anticipated to be completed during spring 2012.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
