Lane closures planned next week on I-10 between I-8 and SR 87

August 27, 2010

TUCSON — As ADOT prepares to begin a widening project on Interstate 10 next month, drivers need to be aware of some pre-construction activities that will begin next week.

On Monday, August 30 and Tuesday, August 31 from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. the next day, the left lane will be closed on both eastbound and westbound I-10 from milepost 199 to 210 for pre-construction activities. One lane will remain open in each direction during these hours.

Construction on I-10 between Interstate 8 and State Route 87 is scheduled to begin on Monday, Sept. 20. This portion of I-10 will be widened from two lanes to three lanes in each direction to reduce traffic congestion and improve safety.

What to expect during construction:

  • Crews will work from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday each week.
  • Two lanes of traffic will remain open during daytime hours and on weekends.
  • This $31.3 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act project is anticipated to be complete during fall 2011.

As always, drivers are reminded to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
