Bicycle access restricted on I-8 through Telegraph Pass beginning tomorrow

Bicyclists asked to use alternate route between Yuma Foothills and Wellton

March 15, 2012

Work to seal pavement cracks on Interstate 8 from Wellton to the Yuma Foothills will require restricting shoulder access for bicyclists through Telegraph Pass from Friday (March 16) through April 10. One lane of I-8 will be restricted weekdays through the mountainous region of Telegraph Pass as crews work to maintain the pavement.

What to expect during construction:

  • One lane will be restricted on westbound and eastbound I-8 from Ligurta to west of Foothills Boulevard between 6:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Message boards and signs will be in place to advise drivers of lane restrictions. Speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph through the work zone and law enforcement will be on-site to monitor speeds.

No work is scheduled on holidays or weekends. This project is scheduled to be completed by April.

ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
