Widening of US 160 west of Tuba City continues

Work schedule adjusted this week

August 23, 2012

The Arizona Department of Transportation continues work to widen US 160 five miles west of Tuba City (milepost 314 to 319) this week. The roadway widening will allow the installation of right and left turn lanes at Moenave Road.

The work schedule has been extended to include Friday (Aug. 24) and Saturday (Aug. 25) this week for crews to finish work necessary prior to paving the turn lanes at Moenave Road on Monday (Aug. 27) morning.

Next week, work will return to its standard schedule of Monday through Thursday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Navajo Nation time (6 a.m. and 4 p.m. for the rest of Arizona, which does not observe daylight saving time). There will be reduced speeds and single lane closures throughout the work zone.

The $948,000 project also includes installation of pipe liners inside existing culverts at 12 locations along US 160 and is scheduled for completion in late September.

The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage. ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
