San Luis Street Improvement Project

Both ADOT and the City of San Luis agree that in order to make the Main Street Sidewalk Enhancement Project a success, improvements must be made to help alleviate the flow of traffic to and from the U.S./Mexico Port of Entry (POE). Plans are underway to modify the circulation of traffic in the downtown area by directing northbound traffic from the POE to First Avenue and southbound POE traffic to Archibald Street.

The project is currently in design. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2012 and will be scheduled to coincide with the Main Street Enhancement Project. The project will be executed in phases to allow the public to become acquainted with the new circulation of traffic.

Project improvements will include:

  • Improved traffic circulation to and from the Port of Entry
  • Roundabout at D Street and Main Street
  • One-way streets on 1st Avenue and Archibald Street
  • New street lights and luminaries
  • New curb and gutter
  • New pavement
  • New and improved signage
