TUCSON — The public is invited to attend an open house to view sound barrier wall design drawings for three areas along the west side of Oracle Road, north of Vistoso Commerce Loop Drive and south of Mountainaire Drive. The sound walls are part of the Arizona Department of Transportation's proposed Oracle Road (State Route 77) improvement project from Tangerine Road to the Pinal County Line. The purpose of the meeting is to gain community input regarding the appearance and proposed design of the walls and other roadway features.

ADOT and the Federal Highway Administration are working together to improve traffic flow and enhance safety on Oracle Road (SR 77) from Tangerine Road to the Pinal County Line. Construction is anticipated to begin in fall 2013.The project proposes to:

  • Widen Oracle Road from two to three lanes in each direction along the project area.
  • Include other improvements, such as raised center medians, traffic signal improvement and a shared-use path.

Traffic studies and noise analysis conducted during the ongoing design of the project determined that these locations qualify for sound barrier walls according to ADOT Noise Policy Abatement and the FHWA Noise Regulations. A survey of property owners with projected future noise levels that met policy qualifications found that a majority of owners in these areas want the walls built.

At the open house, you will have the opportunity to:

  • View displays depicting the sound barrier walls.
  • View maps showing the future locations of the walls.
  • Talk with project team members who can address your questions.
  • Provide your comments on the proposed sound barrier walls and other roadway features.
