Interstate 17 will be closed in both directions for up to 30 minutes at 11 p.m. Monday (Jan. 23) as crews perform blasting operations near Big Bug Creek along I-17 in Cordes Junction, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. The on-ramp from State Route 69 to southbound I-17 will also be closed.
Additionally, the right lane northbound on I-17 will be closed during normal work hours Monday (Jan. 23) from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. to provide a safe work zone.
On Tuesday (Jan. 24) from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. crews will intermittently close one single lane on I-17 northbound as they perform pavement striping and shift the temporary concrete barriers. A single lane will remain open at all times on I-17 northbound during work hours.
The work is part of a $50 million project to reconstruct the I-17/SR 69 traffic interchange.
The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage. ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
