Interstate 17 Cordes Junction project requires 30 minute overnight closures this week

Northbound and southbound traffic will be stopped for blasting and utility work

January 17, 2012

Interstate 17 will be closed for up to 30 minutes at 11 p.m. tonight (January 17) and Thursday (January 19) as crews perform blasting operations near Big Bug Creek along I-17 in Cordes Junction, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. The on-ramp from State Route 69 to southbound I-17 will also be closed.

Additionally, the right lane northbound on I-17 will be closed during normal work hours today (January 17) and Thursday (January 19) from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. to provide a safe work zone for crews performing blasting operations.

Crews will also be performing necessary work on overhead utility lines across I-17. The utility work will require intermittent closures northbound and southbound on I-17 resulting in up to 15 minutes delays at a time starting today (January 17) through Thursday (January 19) from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The work is part of a $50 million project to reconstruct the I-17/SR 69 traffic interchange.

The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage. ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
