Movement of construction equipment to close one lane of eastbound I-10 the morning of January 13

January 21, 2011

SAFFORD — The Arizona Department of Transportation will limit eastbound traffic to one lane on Interstate 10 near Benson Thursday morning while moving a construction crane off the freeway median.

The closure of the left lane of eastbound I-10 is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and last 90 minutes. The posted speed limit will be reduced from 65 mph to 55 mph through the area of the closure, which will be at the interchange of I-10 and State Route 90.

Crews are using the crane to pour concrete for a drainage culvert in the median of I-10 east of the interchange. Concrete has been poured on the east end of the culvert and workers need to move it west to pour the remainder of it.

The work is part of a two-year $27.6 million ADOT project to replace the traffic interchange at I-10 and SR 90 and eliminate the "S" curves to the west.

As always, drivers are reminded to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
