Identification (ID) Card
Identification (ID) Card
An Arizona ID Card serves as official photo identification for residents who don't have a driver license. Here’s why you may need one:
- Official State-Issued Photo ID - An Arizona ID Card provides government-issued identification that's widely accepted for official purposes when you don't drive or need a driver license.
- Travel and Transportation - While not valid for air travel alone, an ID card can be used for identification when traveling by bus, train, or other ground transportation. You’ll need to apply for a Travel ID (Real ID) for domestic air travel.
- Banking and Financial Services - Banks and financial institutions accept state ID cards for opening accounts, cashing checks, and other banking transactions.
- Age Verification - Use your ID card to verify your age for purchasing age-restricted items or accessing age-restricted venues.
- Government Services - Many government offices and services require photo identification, and an ID card fulfills this requirement. Note: Federal government services require a REAL ID.
An Arizona identification (ID) card is available to all ages, including children and infants.
Identification cards for children and adults are available at any MVD location. You can begin your application online at AZMVDNow.gov.

Identification Cards for Children
ADOT recommends that all children have an Arizona ID Card.
Benefits of an Arizona ID card for your child include:
- An Arizona ID card with a photo enables law enforcement agencies to distribute your child's information and photograph in the event of an AMBER Alert (child abduction alert bulletin) more rapidly.
- An Arizona ID card can help protect your child against identity theft.
- Having an Arizona ID card can make it easier for your child to travel and enroll in school or activities.
A new photo will be needed as your child grows and changes.

If your ID card has been lost or stolen and you have reason to believe someone else is using it, the incident should be reported to your local police department as an identity theft.
