ADOT lifts night time closure on State Route 87

April 24, 2008

Phoenix, Arizona: The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) completed night time work on State Route (SR) 87 sooner than expected and will not close the highway tonight (April 24).

ADOT had announced last week a night time closure from Tuesday through today that would accelerate the repair of embankments in the Slate Creek area impacted by the March 21 landslide.

To protect the safety of the traveling public, ADOT will continue to repair embankments and will continue to keep one southbound and one northbound lane opened near milepost 224 between Sunflower and Rye.

ADOT’s Motor Vehicle Division continues to impose a 12 foot maximum wide load restriction for both northbound and southbound lanes. This will prevent vehicles with wide loads from blocking travel through the construction zone and slowing other motorists.

The U.S. Forest Service has partnered with ADOT to ensure proper drainage and erosion control throughout the project.

Visit ADOT’s Travel Information site at az511 or dial 5-1-1 for information across Arizona.

Please buckle up, observe speed limits, and never drink and drive.
