ADOT's repair of State Route 87 embankment requires night time closures
April 18, 2008
Phoenix, Arizona: The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will close State Route 87 from
8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday, April 22 through Thursday, April 24 in order to accelerate the repair of embankments in the Slate Creek area following a landslide that occurred earlier this year.
Motorists can use US 60 and State Route 188 through Globe or I-17 and State Route 260 through Camp Verde to travel between the Phoenix and Payson areas during night time hours next week.
To protect the safety of the traveling public, ADOT closed the highway on March 21 following the discovery of a landslide between Sunflower and Rye. SR 87 was reopened on March 27 with one lane in each direction, while construction crews continued making repairs.
ADOT’s Motor Vehicle Division also has approved a 12 foot maximum wide load restriction for both northbound and southbound lanes beginning Monday and running through Memorial Day. This will prevent vehicles with wide loads from blocking travel through the construction zone and slowing other motorists.
The U.S. Forest Service has partnered with ADOT to ensure proper drainage and erosion control throughout the project.
Please call 5-1-1 for updates on this closure. ADOT appreciates your patience as we work to safely reopen all lanes of the highway.
