Interstate 19 closures near Nogales

July 1, 2008

TUCSON – As part of its pavement preservation project on Interstate 19 near Nogales, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will place a final layer of asphalt from 5:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Monday, July 7 through Saturday, July 12, from Palo Parado Road to Ruby Road. There will be intermittent ramp and lane closures during this time period.

Only one lane of traffic will be closed at any time. Drivers can expect I-19 to flow smoothly while lanes are closed. During the construction period, motorists who encounter a closed ramp are advised to use an alternative ramp that will be open north or south of the closed ramp.

Motorists are advised to watch for construction personnel and public safety officers and to obey all posted speed limit signs and detour routes while traveling through the construction area.

This $9.3 million pavement preservation project was awarded at the December 21, 2007 meeting of the State Transportation Board. Begun in February, the old asphalt layer was removed and new asphalt has been placed on northbound and southbound I-19, and on all on and off ramps, between Palo Parado Road and Ruby Road. Final road striping will wrap up the project in August.

Visit ADOT’s Travel Information site at az511 or dial 5-1-1 for information across Arizona.

Please buckle up, observe speed limits, and never drink and drive.
