The small construction or engineering business owner may be an expert in his or her field, but may need some assistance with business management, finance, marketing and related support services to help grow their business. There is a lot to learn as a small business owner, and even more as a small business in the transportation contracting industry. Here are a number of programs and services that can help your company.
ADOT’s DBE Supportive Services Program — The program hosts many workshops, business-to-business networking events, trainings and conferences every year for DBEs and small businesses. You can also contact the supportive services program ([email protected], Phone 602.712.7761) and ask how to get an individual one-on-one assessment of your business, how to qualify for one-on-one technical assistance and how to be added to their email list so that you’ll be notified about upcoming program and events.
ADOT Training Webinars — Supportive services has recordings of a number of past webinars (Internet-based seminars) designed to help you learn more about growing and operating your business.
ADOT Financial Services Handbook for Small and Disadvantaged Businesses — This handbook provides information on available financial, insurance, and bonding services to help you navigate and take advantage of your best options. It can be found on the ADOT website.
ADOT Certified Payroll Reporting Registration — This page will allow you to find available dates and sign up for a workshop on how to do certified payroll reporting. This training will teach you about the requirements of payroll reporting, identify the steps to properly implement payroll reporting, and share some tools and resources for implementing payroll reporting efficiently. ADOT ePayroll and Contract Compliance Training Module — This training module teaches you about ADOT’s ePayroll and Contract Compliance requirements. You can register and get started in engineering and construction section of the ADOT website.
Federal Bonding Education Program (BEP) — The BEP is a hands-on, multi-component program designed to address what businesses need to do to become bond-ready, as well as one-on-one sessions with local surety bonding professionals to help in assembling the materials necessary for a complete bond application. Arizona Commerce Authority Small Business Support — This website is dedicated to providing information, incentives and support for small businesses. It provides event calendars, information about incentives for small businesses and a customized checklist program to help navigate the complexities of starting a new business. Arizona Small Business Association - The Arizona Small Business Association is a membership organization dedicated to helping small businesses grow and achieve success. They provide education, mentoring, and one-on-one counseling. Learn more on the Arizona Small Business Association website.
Arizona Workforce Connection — This website is provided by the Workforce Arizona Council (WAC) to provide a variety of resources to both employers and employees. The website provides information and links for a variety of issues, from recruitment and training to tax credit programs and business consulting. Arizona Small Business Resource Guide — The Arizona small business resource guide is published by the U.S. Small Business Administration to share useful services and information with small businesses. It contains resources, advice, and stories highlighting particular businesses. It can be found on the Small Business Association website.
Associated Minority Contractors of America (AMCA) — The AMCA is an Arizona-based advocacy group dedicated to promoting minority- and women-owned contracting firms. They provide seminars and workshops designed help minority contractors better compete in the public and private sectors.
Arizona Small Business Development Center Network — This is a collaboration between a number of different organizations designed to provide one-on-one business evaluation and guidance, as well as workshops and seminars.
