ADOT
Research Program
The ADOT
Research Center is a catalyst for the continuous improvement of the
Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT). This responsibility includes the formal
development of a focused research program as well as providing the forum for improvement
through effective technology transfer, and fostering change in areas beyond the domain of
research. To accomplish this, the Research Center uses the expertise of both public and private partners.
This includes the university system of Arizona and the consultant community.
Anyone may
submit a research proposal by sending a completed Research
Suggestion Form via email to researchcenter@azdot.gov. The form
is available at: http://www.azdot.gov/TPD/ATRC/docs/Suggestion_Form.doc.
All research suggestions are evaluated by the
Research Center. Upon completion of
the evaluation process, the highest-rated proposals are presented to the ADOT
Research Council for further evaluation and ranking. Proposals are funded to the extent
that funds are available, beginning with those rated highest by the Research Council.
Research
Center project
managers oversee the research on individual projects. Each project manager supervises
research in one or two Emphasis Areas.
The actual research may be done by a private consultant, a university professor, or a
college student. The projects are managed in accordance with the procedures
outlined in the Research Center's Research
Program Manual. The Research Center also participates in
several cooperative research ventures with other states, federal
agencies, and private associations.
Research
culminates in reports that are written according to published guidelines and distributed
by the Research Center. The Instructions and Specifications book for reports is available on the web in Adobe PDF format, as are the latest catalog of reports, with instructions for requesting them,
and some of
the reports.
