Welcome to the official Web site for the Arizona Rural Transit Needs Study. Initiated by the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) – Multimodal Planning Division in August 2006, the purpose of the study is to understand the gaps in transit service in rural and non-urbanized areas across the state and to identify solutions and costs associated with improvements. The study team organized the rural areas of the state into the nine study areas identified below to facilitate the collection of study data:
In early 2007, the ADOT study team, in partnership with the regional planning organizations, hosted key stakeholder workshops throughout the state to obtain input from transit providers and representatives from large user groups, such as tribal governments, major employers and social service agencies. The stakeholder input was considered in the development of potential solutions and the final study recommendations.
