Ak-Chin Indian Community Transit and Nonmotorized Transportation Study

Project Summary:

The principal focus of the Study is to identify a feasible transit system, bicycle, and pedestrian improvements that will improve mobility and safety conditions within the Community and potential regional connections to the City of Maricopa and other locations in Pinal and Maricopa counties.  Ak-Chin Indian Community members walk to work three times more often than the average Arizonan.  Building a system of trails and enabling the multi-modal transportation system to serve the Community will provide enhanced livability and increase safety.

The Ak-Chin Indian Community Transit and Nonmotorized Transportation Study will be conducted according to a cooperative planning process involving stakeholders that include public agency staff, elected tribal officials, and the community members.  Throughout the study, information will be presented to and solicited from stakeholders through individual interviews, focus group meetings, public meetings, and other means of communication.
