Yuma Foothills and Mesa Del Sol Areas Transportation Needs Study

Project Summary:

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is conducting a Transportation Needs Study for the Foothills and Mesa Del Sol Areas for Yuma County.   The study will encompass a mixed use of zoning areas developed and undeveloped within the Mesa Del Sol and Foothills areas, with a population of 40,000 increasing to 80,000 from the influx of winter visitors between the months of October and April, that impacts existing road networks, internal area junctions, as well as ADOT I-8 interchanges at Fortuna Road and Foothills Boulevard. The study will identify roadway and potential multimodal improvements coupled with flood control requirements to meet the growing population and changing land uses to improve mobility and safety and to encourage sensible and sustainable development that supports the current and projected uses in the General Plan.

The major product of the Study will be a final report which contains a refined plan for improvements over five, ten, and twenty year periods, incorporating both roadways and the multimodal needs of the area.

The Transportation Needs Study for the Foothills and Mesa Del Sol Areas  will be conducted according to a cooperative planning process involving stakeholders that include public agency staff, elected officials, and the public.  Throughout the study, information will be presented to and solicited from stakeholders through individual interviews, public meetings, and other means of communication.
