The westbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Arizona Avenue and the off-ramp at Alma School Road will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., beginning Monday, Jan. 5, and ending the morning of Friday, Jan. 9, and again from 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, to 10 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11.
- Detours: Westbound Loop 202 drivers may consider using the on-ramp at Alma School Road and the off-ramp at Arizona Avenue.
- Westbound Loop 202 also will be narrowed to two lanes in that area during this time.

The eastbound Loop 202 on-ramp at McQueen Road and the off-ramp at Cooper Road will be closed from 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, to 5 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, and again from 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, to 10 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11.
- Detours: Eastbound Loop 202 drivers may consider using the on-ramp at Cooper Road and the off-ramp at McQueen Road.
- Eastbound Loop 202 also will be narrowed to two lanes in that area during this time.

Ongoing lane restrictions

Westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) will continue to be narrowed to three lanes in the area of the Loop 202 and Loop 101 interchange ramp to the Loop 202 off-ramp at Price Road for pavement removal/replacement and drainage installation.

LONG-TERM RAMP CLOSURES (Approximately 60 days):

Westbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Alma School Road closed 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, for approximately 60 days for ramp reconstruction.

Detour: Drivers may consider using the westbound Loop 202 on-ramps at Arizona Avenue or Price Road.

The westbound Loop 202 off-ramp at Dobson Road will be closed for approximately 60 days beginning 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4.

Detour: Drivers may consider using the westbound Loop 202 off-ramps at Alma School or Price roads.

Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation in collaboration with the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) has initiated a project to widen and make other improvements to the Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) between Loop 101 (Price Freeway) and Val Vista Drive in the city of Chandler and town of Gilbert.

The purpose of this project is to improve traffic capacity on Loop 202 to address growing traffic demands in the southeast Valley and relieve traffic congestion on Loop 202 during the morning and evening peak travel periods. Maricopa County is one of the fastest growing regions in the United States, with the population expected to increase by nearly 30 percent between 2020 and 2040. Traffic volume projections indicate congestion will worsen in the future due to growth in the region.

Adding two general purpose lanes in each direction on Loop 202 from Loop 101 to Gilbert Road
Adding one general purpose lane in each direction from Gilbert Road to Val Vista Drive
Widening exit ramps from one to two lanes
Adding noise walls in some locations
Widening overpass bridges
Reconstructing the eastbound Arizona Avenue on-ramp and bridge
Removing the existing asphalt pavement surface to improve existing pavement conditions and the driving surface for vehicles
