The monument was dedicated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 1998. Seventeen families of fallen employees attended. Twenty-eight ADOT employees from around the state volunteered to server as ushers for the event. Bishop Art Loring, Pentecost Church of Jesus Christ and former ADOT employee, did the invocation.

Speakers included Mary Peters, ADOT Director, Jack Husted, Transportation Board Chairman, and Yvonne Hernandez, Monument Dedication Chairperson. William Rawson, ADOT Community Relations Director served as Master of Ceremonies for the event. The presentation of colors and the saber battalion were provided by Project Challenge.

Amazing Grace and My Heart Will Go On were sung by Barbara Brown, Administrative Assistant for ADOT and In the Garden was sung by Ray Smith, an ADOT retiree. Steve Dana, Electrical Operations Engineer served as accompaniment.

Ushers presented a representative from each family in attendance with a white rose and served as escorts through the saber battalion to the monument site. Fallen employees without a family member present had a rose laid on the monument by an usher in their honor.
