     Responsibilities

Safety Management

Our safety professionals develop and implement safety policies for the agency. This section supports employee safety committees throughout the agency and supervises activities related to recognizing and managing hazards in our workplace. The section develops employee safety training programs that are effective and procedures that allow employees to not only recognize a hazard, but have the information and resources necessary to implement practices to prevent that hazard from causing an incident or injury.

Industrial Hygiene

Industrial Hygiene ensures employee safety and health by anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling workplace environmental factors or stresses, which may cause injury, sickness, impaired health and well-being, or significant discomfort among workers. To accomplish these goals, the Industrial Hygiene Section provides oversight for the automated defibrillator, bloodborne pathogen, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, PPE programs and indoor quality, ergonomic, confined space assessments.

Hazardous Materials

ADOT’S Hazardous Materials Response Unit responds to all transportation Hazardous Materials incidents that occur on Arizona’s highways. Personnel assume the role set forth by the State Emergency Response and Recovery Plan (ESF-10). Personnel provide support to the Hazardous Materials Unit of the Department of Public Safety to ensure public and personnel safety. Personnel ensure that environmental issues are identified and dealt with during an incident. This is in conjunction with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality’s Hazardous Materials Response Unit.
