Accident Procedures
Even the most careful driver may at some time be involved in an auto accident. Knowledge of what to do after the accident can make the experience a little less frightening and decrease the chance of unnecessary complications.
Motor Vehicle Accident Reporting Instructions
- STOP AT ONCE . . . Check for injuries, offer assistance to any injured parties
- Reduce hazards to other motorists, i.e., place flares, flags, cones, etc
- Notify local law enforcement agency
- Pass out witness information cards
- Secure from other drivers(s) . . . Name, Employer's Name, Insurance Company & Policy Number
- Provide other drivers(s) with insurance information (see certificate of automobile liability insurance in your glove box)
- Notify your supervisor as soon as possible
- Complete an automobile loss report form (along with witness cards) and forward to Risk Management within 10 working days.
- Move vehicles until police arrive
- Comment on who was at fault
- Argue with other driver(s) or police
- Discuss accident with anyone except law enforcement authorities or representatives of Risk Management
