SR
87 (Duthie-Martin Highway) is a state highway that starts
in the Phoenix Metropolitan Area and heads north into Gila
County. There are a large volume of recreational travelers
and tourists that use SR 87 to travel to Arizona Rim Country
and to nearby lakes and recreation areas.
Pavement Improvement Project - Arizona Avenue from Baseline to south of Guadalupe
SR 87 (Duthie-Martin Highway) - New Four Peaks Road to Dos S Ranch Road Reconstruction and Erosion Control Project
ADOT will soon begin a reconstruction/widening and erosion control project on SR 87 between mileposts 204.3 and 213.0, approximately halfway between metro Phoenix and Payson. The project is designed to improve traffic flow by widening the roadway, repairing slopes and ditches, reinforcing embankments, and implementing modifications to meet state and federal standards.
SR 87 (Duthie-Martin Highway) - New Four Peaks Road to Dos S Ranch Road Reconstruction and Erosion Control Project
State Route 87 improvements will occur between mileposts 204.3 and 213.0, approximately halfway between metro Phoenix and Payson, Arizona. This project entails two separate but closely associated projects:
Reconstruction and Widening Project will rebuild the portion of the SR 87 between MP 204.5 (New Four Peaks Road) and MP 209.85 (Dos S Ranch Road), for a distance of approximately 5.35 miles. The project is located within the Tonto National Forest and Maricopa County. The proposed work consists of the following components: reconstructing the southbound roadway between MP 204.5 and MP 206.6; provide pavement widening between MP 206.6 to MP 209.85; construction of a climbing lane from MP 205.4 to MP 207.0; placing new asphaltic concrete pavement; constructing drainage features; installing new pavement markings & signing; placing guardrail barrier and other related work.
Erosion Control Project will reconstruct and repair existing roadway cut slopes on the portion of the SR 87: Mesa-Payson Highway between MP 211.8 and MP 213.0, for a distance of approximately 1.2 miles. The project is within the Tonto National Forest and Maricopa County. The proposed work consists of slope repair, rock wattle construction, construction of transverse and crown ditches, new riprap construction and repair, permanent erosion control, and other related work.
Improvements will be designed to improve traffic flow by increasing road capacity and are intended to make the roadway safer from runoff and debris by repairing slopes and ditches, reinforcing the current infrastructure, and implementing necessary modifications to meet state and federal safety standards.

steps in the development of a roadway or roadway improvement.
In addition to establishing a funding source, there is a series
of required planning and environmental studies before a roadway
is constructed.
