Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) Project Overview

Current Construction Project:

Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) Loop 101 to Gilbert Road HOV Lane

Motorists driving on Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) will find a quicker drive late summer 2010 with the addition of HOV lanes to absorb carpool, bus and motorcycle traffic between Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) and SR 51. In preparation for the construction of this link, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will close Loop 202 between Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) and Country Club Drive to set temporary concrete barrier in the median and restripe traffic lane lines to move traffic towards the right shoulder, improving the safety of crews and motorists by moving traffic away from the work zone.

This addition will complete the HOV eastbound/westbound access from Loop 202 at Loop 101 to Gilbert Road. The project was preplanned to better utilize median space, and will add one HOV lane in each direction, a new permanent concrete median barrier, median lighting and new rubberized asphalt to minimize traffic noise.
