The I-10/SR-51/202L Traffic Interchange Project completed in 1990, consisted of designing and constructing 9 bridges to make the freeway-to-freeway interchange fully directional. The project consisted of two single span bridges, one 2 span bridge, four 3 span bridges, one 6 span bridge and one 11 span bridge. Use of cast-in-place, post-tensioned concrete box girder bridges was chosen for their low cost, ease of construction, durability and aesthetic appeal especially for curved alignments. This alternate required traffic to pass though falsework, since two bridges were constructed over Interstate 10 and two over State Route 51 while under traffic. This project demonstrates the constructability and cost effectiveness of cast-in-place concrete bridges constructed with complex geometry on falsework over traffic. |
