Design Projects Project Overview

The design of a roadway involves several stages of detailed engineering and technical review and interim levels of approval. Project information is shared and discussed with the public at project milestones, and public input is considered in the evaluation of alternatives. The final design of the roadway is represented in plans and specifications that construction contractors use to prepare construction bids.

US 60 (Superstition Freeway) Widening Project

A US 60 (Superstition Freeway) widening project is currently under design that will add one general purpose lane in each direction and auxiliary lanes to assist with merging between on and off ramps at certain locations between Priest Drive to Loop 101 (Price Freeway).

US 60 (Superstition Freeway)

Project Information –

  • No new right-of-way will be required
  • One new travel lane in each direction
  • Noise walls to remain in existing locations
  • Noise evaluation per ADOT Noise Abatement Policy to determine if modifications are needed
  • Rubberized asphalt will be included with this project
  • No crossroad bridge widenings
  • All ramp connections will have access to the US 60 in final configuration; temporary ramp closures will occur during construction
