The Southwest Valley Area

The Southwest Valley has seen unprecedented growth in the past ten years. With the current traffic congestion and future growth potential, the Southwest Valley regional freeway system needs to be expanded.

Current and future freeway projects include the construction of capacity improvements along Interstate 10 with funding for the first portion of the project being accelerated in April 2006. Improvements to the region include the planning of State Route 801, which covers the area from 55th Avenue to Perryville Road, Lower Buckeye to Southern Avenue.

Also included in the Southwest Valley area is the South Mountain Corridor Study that would connect Interstate 10 south of Phoenix with Interstate 10 west of the city.

Mission Statement

ADOT is working with local communities and transit partners to implement comprehensive and broad-based communication programs as transportation projects and services develop within the Southwest Valley. Together, we are working to construct the projects that voters approved funding for as quickly as possible and to complete a transportation network that will improve mobility and travel options in the Southwest Valley.

Communication Methods

The following communications are geared to the Southwest Valley:

- Project specific Web sites and tailored communications
- Southwest Valley eNewsletter
- Informational presentations
- Coordination with local communities, tribal communities and transit partners
- Coordination with regional, state and federal agencies in Maricopa County
