Study Overview Project Overview

State Route 801 is a proposed east-west freeway corridor in western Maricopa County. It would connect existing State Route 85 to the proposed Loop 202 (South Mountain Freeway), with a connection to the proposed Loop 303. State Route 801 West would connect State Route 85 and the proposed Loop 303 in the southwest region of the Valley. This is one of several projects associated with the passage of Proposition 400, designed to improve traffic flow in the West Valley.

In January 2007, a public information meeting was held at Liberty Elementary School in Buckeye, Arizona. The purpose of this meeting was to inform and gather input from the public on the proposed freeway study. Information is available under the Meetings and Notices page for this and all public meetings held on this study.

The section of SR 801 between SR 85 and the proposed Loop 303 is not funded as a full freeway under Proposition 400. Rather, Proposition 400 has funded a full freeway study, the acquisition of right of way for a future full freeway, and the construction of a two-lane (one lane in each direction) roadway somewhere within this new right of way. The depiction below illustrates what is funded currently.

Study Update
In January 2007, ADOT and Federal Highway Administration held one agency and one public introductory meeting for this study. Taking into consideration the agency and public comments, the study team has begun evaluating the proposed study area in detail. The study map presented at these meetings is shown below. It outlines the study area and those readily identifiable physical and social elements collected by the study team prior to the meeting. This exhibit can be downloaded in a high resolution PDF format.
