The Northwest Valley

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is working on a number of transportation improvement projects to meet the growing travel needs in the Northwest Valley, one of the fastest growing areas in Maricopa County.

The Northwest Valley freeway system includes Interstate 17 (Black Canyon Freeway) north of Loop 101, State Route 74 (Carefree Highway), Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway), US 60 (Grand Avenue) and Loop 303 (Bob Stump Memorial Parkway).

Interstate 17 is as a major north-south artery through metro Phoenix and an important route for intrastate and interstate transportation and commerce. Loop 101 and the future Loop 303 serve as inner and outer loops in the Northwest Valley to connect Interstate 10 with Interstate 17. US 60 (Grand Avenue) cuts a diagonal path across the Northwest Valley, and intersects with I-17, Loop 101, Loop 303 and US 93 and is the Valley’s primary link to Las Vegas. State Route 74 connects US 60 and I-17.

Mission Statement

ADOT is working with local communities and transit partners to implement comprehensive and broad-based public involvement programs as transportation projects are developed in the Northwest Valley. Together, we are working to construct the voter-approved projects in the Maricopa County Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) as quickly as possible and complete a transportation network that will improve travel options in the Northwest Valley.

Public Involvement Methods

The Arizona Department of Transportation is committed to providing accurate and timely information to the public about current and planned projects. The following communications/public involvement methods are used for projects in the Northwest Valley:

  • Corridor-specific Web sites
  • Corridor and project newsletters, fact sheets and other materials
  • E-mail and other electronic updates
  • Informational presentations to community and business groups
  • Public information meetings and public hearings
  • Coordination with local communities, tribal communities and transit partners
  • Coordination with regional, state and federal agencies in Maricopa County
  • 24-hour, seven-day per week Northwest Valley project hotline
If you would like to request an ADOT presentation or materials about projects in the Northwest Valley, contact us at 480.890.3055 or at ProjectUpdate@lewin-associates.com.
