US 60 (SUPERSTITION FREEWAY)
 |
This
fall the major widening project from Gilbert to Power
Roads is moving into its final phases of construction.
Most work now will occur in the median (middle), including
setting a permanent concrete barrier and installing lights,
and signs. |
Rubberized asphalt will be applied during the spring
of 2007 from Gilbert to Crismon Roads, marking completion of
this US 60 improvement project.
Additionally, studies are programmed to begin in 2007 for improvements
to US 60 between Mill Avenue and Loop 101, with construction
anticipated to commence in 2010.

LOOP 202 (SANTAN FREEWAY)
The Santan Freeway opened in June 2006, to much local
enthusiasm and fanfare.
The opening event on June 8th was attended by thousands
of residents, who enjoyed local vendors and speeches by
dignitaries.
The freeway opening marked the completion of a very important
East Valley connection. Landscaping is underway along
the new stretch of freeway. |

LOOP
202 (RED MOUNTAIN FREEWAY)
 |
Excitement is building as the final segments of the Loop
202 Red Mountain Freeway near completion. |
The SuperRedTan
traffic interchange, which connects the Superstition, Red
Mountain, and Santan freeways near US 60 and Ellsworth Road,
will be complete late this year, excluding the ramps that
will ultimately guide traffic onto northbound Loop 202.
Once the Red Mountain
Freeway segment is complete between Southern Avenue and University
Drive in 2007, those final ramps can open. The final piece
of the Red Mountain Freeway, the stretch that runs between
Power Road and University Drive, will be complete in 2008.
A study is underway
for improvements to capacity and operations on the Loop 202
Red Mountain Freeway from SR 51 to Loop 101. The improvements
will be accomplished through a combination of general purpose
lanes, auxiliary lanes, and adjustments to ramp meters, cameras,
message signs, signing, pavement marking, and lighting. Construction
is anticipated to begin in 2009.
Also
in 2009, High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes will be constructed
in the median on the Red Mountain Freeway between Loop 101 and
Gilbert Road. In preparation, studies and preliminary engineering
are underway.

|
LOOP 101 (PIMA FREEWAY)
Construction
will occur on the Loop 101 Pima Freeway from Princess
Drive to the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway in late 2007.
One HOV lane in each direction will be added within the
current median. Also, ADOT will construct a concrete barrier
to replace the existing cable barrier.
The project includes design and construction of traffic
count sensors, cameras, and message signs-collectively
referred to as “FMS” or Freeway Management
System. |
 |
A ramp metering project will begin spring 2007. Installing ramp
metering components and new traffic control signage will be
completed in advance of the HOV construction project.
 |
|
|
|
LOOP 101 (PRICE FREEWAY)

|
Also
on Loop 101 Price Freeway, from the Loop 202 Red Mountain
Freeway south to Baseline Road, ADOT will construct HOV
lanes within the current median, along with a concrete
barrier to replace the existing cable barrier. Construction
is anticipated to begin in 2008. |

STATE ROUTE 802 (WILLIAMS GATEWAY FREEWAY)
The Williams Gateway Freeway is programmed for study in the
Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) Regional Transportation
Plan (RTP) which was funded by Maricopa County residents with
the passage of Proposition 400. A Design Concept Report and
Environmental Study will be conducted for the proposed Williams
Gateway Freeway.
The
proposed study boundaries will begin at the Loop 202 Santan
Freeway in the vicinity of the Williams Gateway Airport in Maricopa
County, and then head generally eastward into Pinal County to
potentially link up with US 60.

|
STATE ROUTE 87 (BEELINE HIGHWAY)
The
project is currently underway to construct roadway and
safety improvements to State Route 87 Beeline Highway
from the US Forest Service boundary to the New Four Peaks
Road intersection.
Final design work will be completed in
early 2007, with construction to commence in spring 2007.
The improvement project should take approximately 15 months.
