Lack of Internet access or a troublesome home printer will no longer keep residents from owning their own map of the proposed South Mountain Freeway alignment.

Starting Tuesday, residents will be able to see and buy copies of the maps at two Phoenix public libraries and the FedEx Kinko's copy store in Ahwatukee Foothills.

The arrangement is a response to concerns raised by Ahwatukee residents that people without Internet access couldn't see the maps, said Matt Burdick, spokesman for the Arizona Department of Transportation. The maps - a series of aerial photographs showing the proposed freeway's outline - are still available online at www.southmountainfreeway.com.

The maps are at Ironwood Branch Library, 4333 E. Chandler Blvd., or Burton Barr Library, 1221 N. Central Ave. To view them, check in at the reference desk and ask for the public review documents for the South Mountain Freeway. Copies are 20 cents per page for black and white and 75 cents per page in color. Printing out the entire Pecos Road alignment takes five 11-by-17 pieces of paper.

Residents can also buy maps from the FedEx Kinko's at 4940 E. Ray Road in Ahwatukee. The photographs are available for viewing in binders and can be purchased for $2 per 11-by-17-inch color page. Information: (480) 893-0700.
