Future freeway route on citizens team agendaBy Doug Murphy Possible alignment changes for a Loop 202 South
Mountain Freeway near 71st Avenue tops the July 28 agenda of the South Mountain
Citizens Advisory Team. The meeting will be held at the Komatke Center at 51st
Avenue and St. Johns Road, just north of Pecos Road on the Gila River Indian
Community, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The citizens advisory team provides the Arizona
Department of Transportation planners with feedback on possible routes and
concerns from the freeway that would connect Interstate 10 in Ahwatukee
Foothills and I-10 on the west side of the Valley. On the west side, ADOT and the committee have
identified five possible routes for the freeway to connect with I-10 between
51st Avenue and the Loop 101 interchange. On the east side, in Ahwatukee Foothills, the only
identified alignment is the 1988 route where Pecos Road now is. The 24-member advisory team has five representatives
from Ahwatukee Foothills. For information, visit www.southmountainfreeway.com. The
