ADOT continually plans for enhancements to the roadway once it is built and in use for maximum efficiency and safety. Various studies identify these enhancements and may influence additional planning, design and construction.

The proposed project is approximately 30 miles and passes through the communities of Glendale, Peoria, Phoenix and unincorporated Maricopa County.
An environmental study and Design Concept Report for the proposed project is currently under way. Comments on the proposed project are due Nov. 27 for inclusion in the study. Construction of the proposed HOV lanes between I-17 and Tatum Boulevard is included in Fiscal Year 2013 of ADOT’s Five-Year Construction Program. Future phases would be scheduled upon completion of this study, based on available funding. Construction of HOV lanes on Loop 101 between I-10 and I-17 is currently identified in Phase III (2016-2020) and Phase IV (2021-2025) of the Regional Transportation Plan.
